Carrie and son, Cameron [back]

Carrie has lived in Smithsburg her whole life. She and her son Cameron are members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Smithsburg, and currently live with Carrie’s parents and younger brother in their Smithsburg home. Living with her parents and brother in a multi-family situation has been difficult for the family. Carrie has a good job working as a medical assistant, but cannot find housing she can afford on her own.
Carrie’s pastor, Rev. Gerry Johnson of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg, referred her to Habitat. He believes the Habitat program provides Carrie her best opportunity to overcome her struggles and succeed in life. Through Habitat, Carrie has taken a budgeting class where she learned how to better manage her money, and is working with her family partner on establishing goals and learning other skills that will help her in homeownership.
Words cannot describe Carrie’s excitement and motivation to own her own home through Habitat. Cameron is also excited, and asks her on a regular basis “When are we going to our home?” With the help of Thrivent and Lutherans their house will be a home in 2010.
