Tracy, Charles and Family [back]

Sunday, November 22, 2009 was a special day for Tracy and Charles and their three children and also for the ladies of the Habitat for Humanity Women Build program who had completed building their fourth Habitat home in five years.

Charles and Tracy, volunteers, and friends crowded into a packed living room for the dedication of their new home. Tracy started thanking everyone who had worked on this house the tears started flowing. Tracy and Charles spoke of their difficulty in the past year as Tracy lost her job and Charles’ working hours were cut. Then bills were higher than expected and finally they were forced to leave their rented home. Following the eviction Tracy got a new job making significantly less than before. The family began living in a Community Action Council temporary apartment and was featured in the Herald-Mail series on homeless in Hagerstown. And now here they were with a brand new home of their own. It was simply overwhelming.

The family moved in that very week and celebrated Thanksgiving in their new home. Now the children have a warm, safe place to sleep and invite friends to share. Now the family can continue their lives without worrying about things most of us take for granted. Tracey and Charles always give God the glory and are now a cheerful and thankful part of the Habitat family.

The family releases balloons that hold pieces of paper with their worries written down; worries that have now been released with the security of their new home.
