About Families: Taj and Children [back]

Taj is a single mother of 3 children, Elijah, Noah, and Zoe, ages 14, 6, and 2. Elijah, the 14-yr-old, is severely autistic, functioning at 2-4 yr old level and needs special safety features for the house. The family currently lives in Noland Village, and permanent safety equipment for Elijah cannot be used in public housing, so Taj is particularly excited to have the opportunity for a truly safe and affordable home for herself and her children.
Taj has been employed with Head Start for 4 years as Home Base Teacher & Family Support from birth to 5 yrs of age. She is working toward a degree in early childhood education through a grant provided by Head Start. Taj has completed a 13-wk financial management course required by Habitat and has also completed many of her sweat equity hours by working on the 2010 Apostles Build house and her own home.
Taj’s house is the Educators’ House, a partnership between Habitat’s Women Build program and Washington County Public School educators’. It is truly wonderful that, as a new teacher, Taj will have the love, support, and encouragement of so many teachers and educators in Washington County!
