Women Build
Women Build brings together women from all walks of life and skill levels to help build Habitat for Humanity houses. Women Build challenges and empowers women to build safe, healthy housingwhere families can flourish and grow to be all that they can be. The program is not about excluding men; it is about including women. The Women Build program enables women to discover for themselves that they can build Habitat homes. Women involved with our local Women Build program have built six houses and are building their seventh house in 2012. If you are interested in participating in our Women Build program or just want more information, please email VivianSuffecool@habitat-wc.org or call the Habitat office at 301-791-9009. Women Build Educators' House Dedicated
Photo courtesy of Brothers Who Care Taj fought her tears throughout the dedication of her new home, as did the women and educators, friends and family who came out to support her on August 28, 2011. “I’ve heard over and over again that Habitat builds more than houses,” said Taj, “and I want to give my testimony that it’s true….Habitat has shown me love and compassion and I’ve made good friends…I’m really, really grateful to all of you.” After many hours of “sweat equity” building her home and the homes of other families, Taj is ready to move into her own home. This home will be a safe haven for her three children and will provide stability and peace of mind with affordable monthly payments. Taj’s home was built and funded through a partnership between Habitat’s Women Build program and Washington County educators. Over 300 individuals at 23 schools contributed to the house financially and many more volunteered their time. Taj, who is working toward her degree in education, was surrounded by the love and support of fellow educators throughout the process. This is the 6th house built by the Women Build program and the 36th Habitat house in Washington County. Women who are interested in this program can contact Habitat at 301-791-9009 or VivianSuffecool@habitat-wc.org or download a VOLUNTEER FORM.
